Jessica Simpson’s husband quit drinking to help her on journey to sobriety

Jessica Simpson’s husband Eric Johnson “gave up drinking” when the singer “hit rock bottom” amid her battle with alcohol and drugs.

The star has opened up on her struggle with addiction in her new memoir, Open Book, an excerpt of which appeared in People magazine, and when the 39-year-old embarked on her difficult journey to sobriety in 2017, Eric “gave up drinking the second (she) did” to support his wife.

“It was like no biggie (for him), and he hasn’t gone back or looked back,” Jessica wrote. “It’s just the way he is. He’s a very selfless and loving person who is the most incredible father on the planet.”

The With You singer married former football star Eric in 2014, and the couple shares daughters Maxwell, seven, and 10-month-old Birdie, and son Ace, six.

In previous snippets released via the publication, Jessica said she realised she’d hit rock bottom when she found herself drinking alcohol before Maxwell’s 7.30 am school assembly.

Revealing she’d “already had a drink” before heading to the ceremony, Jessica went on to recall how she “zoned out” later in the day when she was dressed up as Willie Nelson by her team for Halloween.

When asked if she wanted to get her children ready, the star realised she wasn’t able to.

“I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape,” Jessica wrote. “I am ashamed to say that I don’t know who got them into their costumes that night.”

Open Book hits shelves 4 February.

Metallica mourning late bassist Cliff Burton’s father

Metallica has paid tribute to Ray Burton, the father of late bassist Cliff Burton, who has died at the age of 94.

Cliff, who performed on the band’s first three studio albums; Kill ‘Em All, Ride The Lightning, and Master Of Puppets, died at the age of 24 in a tour bus crash in Sweden while on the road with the band in 1986.

However, Ray continued to support the group, and joined them for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2009.

On Sunday, Ray’s daughter Connie Burton announced that her father had passed away last Wednesday, and on Sunday, the rockers posted their own tribute online.

“It is with incredible sorrow that we said farewell to Cliff’s dad Ray Burton last week,” their post reads. “For 38 years, we were lucky enough to have the energy, wisdom and light of Ray in our lives. His eternal youth with his drive, positivity and relentless smile were both incredibly powerful and stirringly honest.”

Current members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo went on to explain how Ray had followed them on tour around the world.

“From coast to coast and overseas too, Ray’s beaming face would regularly greet us, offering warmth and anchor to our travels, and when it came to the entire Metallica family, band, crew and fans, he viewed us all as his own,” they added.

Stating that Ray wouldn’t want them to stay upset, they concluded: “So, in honour of him, and the kind of man he was, we also want to truly celebrate the 94 years of life Ray gave everyone, knowing in certainty that a glint of his light, wisdom, and energy will always be with us all wherever we go. We love you Ray, rest in peace.”

Morrissey is set to play two shows in the UK this March

The former Smiths frontman has announced concerts at Leeds First Direct Arena on March 6, and The SSE Arena, Wembley in London on March 14, in support of his upcoming 13th solo record, ‘I Am Not a Dog On a Chain’.

The European run also sees the musician perform at the Palladium Cologne on March 9, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris on March 11.

The new tour dates come after the Mancunian released new single ‘Bobby, Don’t You Think They Know’ from his upcoming follow-up to 2019’s ‘California Son’.

Morrissey recruited Grammy-winning Motown star Thelma Houston for the epic duet, who said: “One of the biggest joys for me in this business is getting the opportunity to collaborate with other top artists.

“I love the challenge to see if what I do can work with what they’re doing. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t.

“I think the blend of what Morrissey is singing and what I’m singing really works on ‘Bobby’.

“And it was a lot of fun working with M in the studio too!”

The ‘Mute Witness’ singer’s long-time producer, Joe Chicarelli, teased that the upcoming album, which is released via BMG on March 20, is “the boldest and most adventurous” record ever recorded by Morrissey.

He added: “I have now produced four studio albums for Morrissey.

“This is his boldest and most adventurous album yet.

“He has pushed the boundaries yet again – both musically and lyrically.

“And once again proving that as a songwriter and singer, he is in his own category. In truth, no one can be Morrissey but … Morrissey!”

The 60-year-old musician previously described the collection of tracks, recorded in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence in France, as: “The very best of me … too good to be true … too true to be good.”

BMG are also re-issuing remasters of several Morrissey records.

The planned re-releases – ‘Southpaw Grammar’, ‘Maladjusted’, ‘You Are The Quarry’, ‘Ringleader of the Tormentors’, ‘Years of Refusal’ and ‘Live at the Hollywood Bowl’ – will all get updated artwork and sleeve notes.

Tickets for the UK gigs go on general sale on January 24 from 9am.

Chris Martin ‘doesn’t really understand’ Coldplay’s new songs

The 42-year-old singer and his bandmates have decided not to tour their latest album, ‘Everyday Life’, due to environmental concerns, and he’s also doing very little to promote the record as he doesn’t really know what to say. Buy tickets below.

He said: “We’re not touring and we’re not really talking and not doing anything normal.

“This album feels like we have to just release it into the world and let it fend for itself.

“Because a lot of these songs came from a place I don’t really understand, and other reasons too, it’s just not tourable yet.

“We’re trying to wait to tour until we can figure out the environmental side of things.”

The ‘Orphans’ hitmaker has deliberately avoided reading any of the reactions to either the record or the group’s decision not to tour.

He told the latest issue of Q magazine: “I stayed in a real cocoon cos I feel super-focused and super on a mission of some sort.

“This time I’m not even aware of any reaction or any result … nothing, cos I feel a very strong calling to be doing a certain thing.

“It’s always been there but maybe because the way the world is it’s been bubbling extra hard, extra-strong, like, ‘OK, this is what we’re supposed to be doing, let’s head this way.’ “

Although Chris admitted it can be tiring trying to avoid all outside comment, he insisted it is necessary in order to “get good” at his job.

Asked if it’s tiring, he said: “Yeah but that’s what I’m here for. “That’s what I’m on earth for.

“I’m definitely not an underwear model and it’s unlikely I’m going to have my own chain of cycling gyms.
“So I really would like to get good at this job.”

Chester Bennington’s widow sets ‘record straight’ about New Year’s wedding

Chester Bennington’s widow has attacked tabloid reporters for failing to “fact check” the date of her recent wedding, after she was accused of remarrying on her anniversary with the tragic rocker.

Talinda Bennington hit headlines over the weekend (04-05Jan20) after it was claimed she had tied the knot with firefighter Michael Fredman on 1 January (20) – the same day she had become Mrs. Bennington back in 2005.

However, she took to Instagram on Monday to clear up the reports after facing criticism from some of the Linkin Park frontman’s fans online.

Alongside a photo of the wedding programme, she wrote, “With joy and love I want to set something straight.

“ON JANUARY 4th, I wed a wonderful man, great friend, and son this weekend… The day we chose was a day of meaning, in many different ways.”

“My anniversary with my love, Chester, JAN 1 Was NOT THE DAYE (sic),” she continued. “Jan 1st will always be the day I married Chester. I would never paint over that beautiful day with anything else.”

Talinda then turned on the media for spreading lies with the inaccurate reports: “To all of the tabloids who printed a false story, inciting anger to me and my husband, who has upset lots of fans, and to create anger and pain, I ask you FOR WHAT?? (sic)” she added.

The 43 year old, who has three children with the late singer, also posted photos from the reception, which had been circulated in the press – clearly displaying the date of the celebration as 4 January.

“These awful tabloids need to fact check, actually check their own pictures in their articles…!!” she vented.

“Why lie though? To get attention. Well, they have our attention now and we see right through them.”

Bennington took his own life in July, 2017, and in September (19), Talinda revealed she had found love again as she shared the news of her engagement to Fredman.

“I am here to tell you that you can find love after tragedy,” she told fans.

Liam Gallagher says it wouldn’t ‘matter’ if no one turned up to his gigs

The former Oasis star supported The Who in the US at the end of 2019, and he says he didn’t take issue with fans of the ‘My Generation’ group who went to get drinks and food whilst he was playing, because he didn’t launch a solo career to “make any more fans or money”.

The ‘Shockwave’ rocker – whose UK shows sell out in minutes – admitted: “I’m not doing this to gain any more fans — I’m here because I wanted to be.

“I knew I wasn’t going to make any money — I’m just here to sell my record.

“So I’m here to do a few tunes because I love The Who and I love Pete Townshend, and I love Roger Daltrey, so it was a bit of a holiday because I was bringing my kids over.

“So if people are eating food or whatever … a lot of people keep turning up, and if they’re sitting there with food in their mouths, it doesn’t bother me.

“Even if no one turns up, it doesn’t matter, because I’m having a ball out there. So I’m not here for promotion — I’m here just to have a crack at it.”

The ‘Now That I’ve Found You’ singer also explained that he prefers singing with his hands behind his back because he can get “more power” out of his voice, whilst he admitted holding a microphone feels weird to him.

Asked why that is his chosen stance, he told Illinois Entertainer: “Because I like it — I get a bit more power that way.
“It’s projection. I’ve held the microphone a couple of times, and it feels f***ing odd.

“It just doesn’t feel right.

“Whereas putting my hands down behind my back so I can just spit into the mike with distaste?

“Now that feels perfect.”

Cooking clues suggest Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik are back together

Gigi Hadid has fuelled rumours she and Zayn Malik are back together after sharing a photo of herself cooking a dish devised by the singer’s mum on Instagram.

The 24-year-old supermodel has posted a picture of a selection of ingredients online, revealing they are from Trisha Malik’s pasta salad recipe.

Zayn’s mum reposted Gigi’s picture and shared a screen grab on her own account of a throwback video of Gigi revealing that her favourite restaurant was “my boyfriend’s mum’s kitchen”.

The exchange prompted fans of Gigi and Zayn’s to speculate that the former couple had rekindled its romance, 10 months after the pair called it quits. Some followers suggested Gigi and Trisha were cooking in the kitchen together, but neither made that clear.

Reports from November suggested that Gigi and Zayn were back on speaking terms following her split from The Bachelorette star Tyler Cameron.

The former couple started dating back in 2015 after Zayn called off his engagement to Little Mix star Perrie Edwards, but called time on their relationship in March last year (18), announcing the split by posting statements on their social media profiles.

The singer and supermodel later rekindled their romance in June (18), but the couple is said to have broken up for the second time a few months later.

LadBaby scores second Xmas No.1 with fastest-selling download of the year I Love Sausage Rolls

LadBaby is officially on a (sausage) roll as he is crowned the UK’s Official Christmas Number 1 for a second year in a row and sets a new chart record, the Official Charts Company can confirm.

YouTuber and dad blogger Mark Hoyle, along with his wife Roxanne and their two sons, proves that lightning CAN strike twice, taking the coveted festive top spot today with I Love Sausage Rolls – a playful twist on Joan Jett’s I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll. Money raised from the single goes to foodbank charity The Trussell Trust, who support a network of food banks across the UK and provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty.

According to Official Charts Company data, I Love Sausage Rolls smashes last year’s total too, scoring a huge 93,000 chart sales this week (18,000 more than last year’s winning track We Built This City) – and with 85,000 of that total coming via digital purchases, LadBaby not only claims the festive chart crown, but also the fastest-selling download of the year, in fact the fastest-selling download since June 2017’s Artists For Grenfell chart-topping charity single.

The YouTuber sets a new chart record today, becoming the first ever act to deliver two novelty Christmas Number 1 singles back to back. Plus, he’s now one of only three acts to claim consecutive Christmas Number 1s in the history of the Official Chart, and the first in 20 years – the only other acts to claim consecutive Christmas Number 1s are The Beatles (three between 1963 – 1965) and Spice Girls (three between 1996 – 1998).

Celebrating the news, LadBaby told OfficialCharts.com:
“How have we done this again? It’s the best feeling in the world – it’s a Christmas miracle yet again! Thank you everybody for supporting us once again, and all for an amazing cause. It’s going to the Trussell Trust – to the 14 million people living in poverty in the UK. Who doesn’t love a sausage roll at Christmas?”

LadBaby beat Stormzy’s Own It ft. Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy to the Number 1 spot, holding at Number 2, while a strong challenge from Wham!’s Last Christmas sees the 35-year-old festive classic finish at Number 5. The track is the best seller of the week on vinyl, topping this Official Vinyl Singles Chart with just under 5,000 sales after being given a limited edition 7” release. Last Christmas originally peaked at Number 2, missing out on the Christmas Number 1 in 1984 to Band Aid.

Another Christmas essential, Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, is at Number 8, marking its return to the Top 10 for a fourth consecutive year.

Over a third of this week’s Top 40 is made up of new and classic festive songs, including Pogues’ Fairytale of New York ft. Kirsty MacColl (14); Shakin’ Stevens’ Merry Christmas Everyone (16); Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas (17); Elton John’s Step Into Christmas (19); Michael Buble’s It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas (24); Leona Lewis’s One More Sleep (25);

Further down the Top 40, there’s Ariana Grande’s Santa Tell Me (28); Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday (29); Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody (31); Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree (32); Kelly Clarkson’s Underneath The Tree (33); John Legend’s Happy Christmas (War Is Over) (34); and Sia’s Santa’s Coming For Us (36).

A last-minute challenge to get Jarvis Cocker’s political song Running The World into this year’s Official Christmas Chart narrowly misses out on the Top 40, landing at Number 48.

Meanwhile, Stormzy lands two new entries in the Top 40 from his new album Heavy Is The Head: Audacity ft. Headie One enters at Number 6, and Lessons lands at Number 9.

Harry Styles bags three Top 40 entries following the release of his new album Fine Line, led by Adore You at 12, Watermelon Sugar, up 29 places to 18, and Falling at 39.

Finally, Juice Wrld’s Lucid Dreams re-enters the Top 40 at 27 following his death last week.
